Kiwanis Committees

Membership Development and Welfare – assists the membership in bringing in new members, with a special focus on membership diversity and community service. Also have responsibility for member’s attendance and welfare. Process all requests for resignations and leave of absence.

Boys and Girls
– coordinates the Coats & Shoes Project as well as other projects focused on improving the lives of children in our area.

Civic and Business Affairs
– encourages civic and economic development in our area. Also nominates our Club’s candidates for Leadership Kingsport and coordinates a Voter Education Program for City and County elections.

Finance
– works with committees to establish the annual budgets for the Club and monitors expenses vs. revenue. Completes an annual audit and works with any Club fundraising effort.

Greater Years & Spiritual Aims – handles any “senior citizen” issue the Club needs to address. Makes nominations for Kiwanis Towers Board of Directors and provides bus drivers for each Friday. Also provides funding for Kiwanis Towers Christmas Party and other special needs. Provides the Invocation at weekly meetings and plans a Maundy Thursday meal. Also coordinates the annual Salvation Army Bell ringing and other spiritually focused service projects.

House – handles all the arrangements for our weekly lunch meetings, including special set-ups. Greets members and guests and collects badges after each meeting. Maintains the Kiwanis banners and nametags.

InterClub
– arranges for one visit to other clubs in Division 7 each month.

Key Club – coordinates with the Sullivan South and Dobyns Bennett Key Clubs and the Ross N Robinson and Boys & Girls Club Builders Clubs. Involves these clubs in our service projects, as appropriate.

Kiwanis Night
– plans Kiwanis Night, our annual evening of fun and fellowship as we celebrate the success of our year of community service.

Major Emphasis
– promotes the Kiwanis International major emphasis theme at our local level. The current theme is “Children – Priority One”. Our primary local program in support of this theme is a Reading Partnership with Kennedy and Roosevelt Elementary Schools. Also provide support to the Darryl Rice Boundless Playground at Warriors Path State Park.

Communications and Promotions – publishes the club newsletter, The Key, maintains our web site and issues publicity releases to local media, as appropriate. Also issues/updates a Membership Directory.

Programs
– plans the Friday lunch programs that educate and entertain our members and guests. The programming is both diverse and of high quality.

Fundraising
– (Committee established as the need arises). Investigates new fund-raising opportunities and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Golf Tournament – plans our major fundraiser, the Kiwanis Open Invitational, which is held annually in October at Cattails at Meadowview. Format is Captain’s Choice with a shotgun start. Awards are given to top teams in several flights. Also longest drive and closest to the hole awards. A great day of fun!
